Measure What Matters: The Civic Engagement Survey

Share your perspective on what’s working and what needs improvement

Measure What Matters

Your individual experience matters. This Civic Engagement Survey captures your personal perspective on how well our society is fulfilling its promises, supporting its pillars, and enabling responsible citizenship. By sharing your views, you help identify the most important opportunities for improvement in our civic life.

What the Survey Measures

This survey examines your personal experience and satisfaction with different aspects of civic life through the lens of our framework:

  • How well you feel the Promises are being upheld in your experience

  • How strong each of the 14 Pillars seems from your perspective

  • How effectively you're able to practice the Responsibilities in your daily life

Your responses help us understand not just what's happening, but how important each aspect is to you personally. This combination creates a powerful tool for identifying where change would make the most difference.

The Jobs-To-Be-Done Methodology

This survey uses Outcome-Driven Innovation (ODI), a proven approach developed by Tony Ulwick that focuses on the 'jobs' people are trying to accomplish in their civic lives.

For each element of our framework, you'll rate:

  • How important that aspect is to you personally

  • How satisfied you currently are with how that need is being met

This approach helps identify:

  • Overserved areas: Where needs are well-met but may not be highly important

  • Appropriately served areas: Where importance and satisfaction align

  • Underserved areas: High-importance needs with low satisfaction - the key opportunities for innovation

By understanding what matters most to you and where the biggest gaps exist, we can focus efforts on changes that will make the most meaningful difference.

Taking the Survey

The survey takes approximately 15-20 minutes to complete. You'll respond to statements about your experience across all elements of our framework, indicating both:

  1. How important each aspect is to you

  2. How satisfied you are with the current state

The survey also includes demographic and psychographic questions that help us understand patterns across different communities and perspectives. All responses are confidential, and demographic information is used only for analysis purposes.

There are no right or wrong answers—what matters is your honest perspective on what's working and what needs improvement in your civic experience.

How We Handle Your Information

We take your privacy seriously and handle your information with care:

  • Your personal identifying information is never shared - in fact, the survey itself is anonymous to encourage as much participation as possible

  • Demographic data is used only in aggregate analysis to identify patterns

  • All data is secured and used exclusively to improve civic life

The survey is designed for understanding and improvement, not tracking or profiling. Your honest responses help create better communities for everyone
